Defining the Granby System

Visualize Coach Lowrance at a TV studying the tape of the NCAA finals, playing it back and forth and in slow motion until he knows every movement of the hold he’s watching. Next you see him on the wrestling mat teaching the hold he learned. He creates the correct drills, impact words and details to make the new hold work. “Make strong head contact as you pull the knee. Drive and step up the outside foot. Look and pressure toward the back of the neck and cut to the double.” He trains the wrestler and the team to master the new hold. Next you see his wrestlers in matches using the new technique to win.

This happens day after day, week after week, year after year, producing state champions, state champion teams, and All-Americans. This is Keith Lowrance. This is the Granby System. This is what you are getting when you invest in Granby System Videos: the results of a life-long study of wrestling technique and the teaching strategies for implementing them. Coach Lowrance typically attends NCAA, World, and Olympic Championships to learn, to stay ahead of, and to advance his wrestling knowledge. Nearly all of these same nationally top ranked college teams have and study Granby System videos. Thousands who have these tapes have benefited from this lifetime study of wrestling.

What Can Granby System Do For You?

Most wrestlers and coaches use individual holds to attack their opponent. They try it once, try it again, and try it again. They soon find out that opponents can easily defend one individual hold. What we do, is teach several different holds and put them together in a series or a system so that you can smoothly move from one technique to the next, depending on the reactions of your opponent. This gives you the ability to maintain an almost constant attack. In other words, Granby System shows you the best of techniques and how to put them together in a systematic approach that is difficult to defend.

You could get any one of our youth or high school wrestling videos, and it could stand alone with its specific techniques and teaching strategies. You would love it; it would help you win more matches. But, the real advantage of our videos is that the wrestling DVDs themselves are interrelated and connected. On any of the DVDs you will get power packed instruction, but, when you put them together, the system of holds makes you far more effective than studying the advanced wrestling videos individually. Using the system or systematic approach means that you have alternatives for your opponent’s counters, and that when you attack in one way, and it is blocked, you have a second way or even a third that you can turn to. On our videos, you see that often you can start after one leg and end up getting the other, with your opponent wondering how it happened.

How Does This Give You Unstoppable Bottomwork?

With the Granby (Video 1), you have a hold that is open when there is pressure riding or tight riding which is very common. It is a power hold that involves flipping and rolling with the pressure. If pressured, the Granby is very tough to stop; because of this it has become a nationally famous hold. However, wrestlers do ride looser or will adjust to looser riding to defend the Granby. This gives you the opportunity to use the Shrug (Video 2) because it is best executed against the looser rides. The combination of the two holds will conquer both the tight and the loose rider, giving you a system of bottomwork that is very difficult to handle. Nonetheless, neither hold works if you cannot control or stop the top man’s techniques. This is where Granby, Vol. 2 (Video 6) comes in to complete the Granby System bottomwork. On this video, you learn the techniques to block, defend and stop the top man’s moves to put yourself in a position to do the Granby or Shrug. Learning either the Granby or the Shrug makes you a better wrestler, but having all three bottomwork videos makes you virtually impossible to ride.

How To Takedown Anybody at Anytime

Video 3 (The Inside Step), teaches you the most effective series of takedowns in wrestling. You will learn the high crotch, single, double, opposite leg, set-ups, and finishes. Instruction also includes using body position, body control, head control, angles, and leverage to make this series work successfully. It’s an incredible video, but what makes it even better is that all of these positioning details set you up for what you’ll learn on Video 4 (The Sweep Single). This is a single that is quick, takes advantage of your opponent’s movement, and is easy to finish. The Sweep Single works in perfect conjunction with the Inside Step. They each enhance each other. When an opponent defends against one, the other is open. The other big issue for takedowns is defense. There is little difference between offense and defense, as you will see on Video 5 (Takedown Defense). You learn Granby System’s front headlock, butt drags, posts, and go-behinds that are extremely effective. But they are even more forceful if you’ve learned the positioning techniques from Videos 3 and 4. With any one of these videos you learn outstanding technique, but having all three gives you a takedowns system with superior attacks on either leg and great defense at the same time.

How To Become a Pinning Sensation

Video 7 (Topwork Vol. 1) shows a pressure ride that includes breaking your opponents down and controlling them for pins and tilts. The details of capturing the arm, constant pressure, hooks, and bars will make you very effective on top. These techniques also prepare you for greater success with the Cradle (Video 8 ) and the Turk (Video 9). To be truly successful with the Cradle, you need the Turk, and vice versa. These holds work in tandem: when one is not open, the other is. Video 8 gives you ways to catch the Cradle, force the Cradle, score, and pin with the Cradle. As good as the Cradle is, it’s made more effective when you know how to Turk. The Turk is open when the man stiffens and straightens his leg to prevent a Cradle. Video 9 shows dozens of ways and positions to get the devastating Turk. We have the details on how to transition from the Turk to the Cradle or from the Cradle to the Turk. This is a deadly combination. From the dominating riding and scoring from Video 7 to the pinning of Cradles and Turks, you have a system of topwork that makes you a constant threat to your opponents.

For all who may be interested in attending a Williamson home match please note that they will be wrestled at the former Elkland High School gymnasium unless otherwise noted.
Williamson has a nice group of young wrestlers who are exciting to watch. Also worth noting, Tyrus Hamblin won the 113 pound weight class at the Conemaugh Township tournament.
